We like to be more than a shop – so here’s what we’ve done……
Walton Herbs funds and is part of The Yorkshire Live Music Project CIC – this means we provide an annual donation from shop profit to a youth music organisation based in Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire Live Music Project CIC was established in Wakefield in 2009, and works to support and enable live classical and jazz music. Between 2009 and 2016 YLMP provided showcase performance opportunities for young professionals and established international musicians at a wide range of venues across the region, including The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Square Chapel Halifax, St Paul’s Walton, Wakefield Cathedral, The Hepworth Wakefield, Kirkhamgate Village Hall.
As social enterprise promoters, we generated audiences of around 10,000 people of all ages and levels of interest, but in 2016, due to overwhelming marketing costs and shortfalls in public spending, we decided our purpose was better served by direct funding to youth music organisations based in Yorkshire.
To date, our annual donation from profit at Walton Herbs has helped Wakefield Youth Jazz Orchestra (2017) York Jazz Initiative (2018) The Bandits, the junior band of Crofton Silver Band (2019) and this year, Barnsley Youth Choir.
We also aim to support our closest community neighbours and have sponsored Sandal Community Association’s Scarecrow Competition and Working for Walton’s Scarecrow Competition. We have donated herb plants to Incredible Edible Wakefield, and in 2018 supported The National Open Gardens Scheme, and Walton Community Library’s Open Gardens Day.
With our neighbours, we also helped to establish a nearby community garden and have been happy to donate herb plants to help it grow!

This year we have been involved in new planting schemes at Walton Colliery Nature Park, and were able to provide a talk ( all about herbs ! ) at the AGM of The Friends of Walton Colliery Nature Park.
and what we’re hoping to do……
We are working on our environmental policy, we continue to support local community causes where we are able, and of course, we’re committed to our annual donation to a youth music organisation. Oh, and before we forget ! we’re happy to take back plant pots, but, due to limitations on storage space, we can only accept them in the sizes we are able to use.
We welcome ideas and comments – please do not hesitate to get in touch…..
